It is free seating, but is effectively the passenger in front of you is reclining you still have the option to switch to the other seat. That said, the recline is non that significant on these embraers!

Travelling as a couple in J, we each had 2 pairs of seats across the aisle. We could have finally gather on the same AB or DF pair but realized on board that having each our pair of seat was much more comfortable with still the possibility of easily talking across the aisle.
