Last week, the facial recognition was only for JAL passengers in HND and they had it only in departures. I landed around 5pm and the crowds weren't bad. I asked whether there was a priority lane for business and was told there was none. The entire Visit Japan deal is pretty easy to handle, but the way the whole thing is being executed once you land (getting people to sort into those who have a QR code and the rest) was quite unlike Japan. But I presume it is to do with the cluelessness of many of the passengers.

But don't forget to complete the customs formalities while waiting for your bags. You scan your passport, the QR code, and it takes a picture of you. All while you wait for the bags. Then you just walk out if the exit camera matches your face. Same for when you leave the country as well. That took all of two seconds. That process was faster than any priority lane I could ask for.
