That happens on EVERY airline.
One of the things I hate most about assigned seats is when a family of 6 buys six random middle seats and then wants various other passengers to swap so all six of them can sit together. I realize that can still happen with Southwest, but it generally doesn't (at least not as much) because if that's all that is left when they board they are more likely to just take their lumps instead of typing up the whole boarding process trying to negotiate all those swaps.
