Yes, I was also surprised it didn't work. I just tried it again on UA.com with the same result, i.e. only the separate UA PNR will pull up the itinerary. The same itinerary is being sold by both airlines, with the first leg operated by AC (YEG to YYC), and the next two operated by UA (YYC to ORD, ORD to STL). The second and third flights are codeshares but the first one seems to only have an AC number, I don't know if that has an effect. 🤷
