They would, if they play it "smart". I know of a case (not in aviation, but still) of someone who had a reputation of avoiding like a plague as a woman (alone) (or man to be honest), who had terrible reports, but nothing substantially proven and worked for 13 years until his retirement.
In the Netherlands it really is difficult to fire someone, unless you have solid documents and even than you are mostly ordered to offer counciling and training.
