A significant reason for the long taxi at the moment is that there are only 2 of the 3 runways are in operation.
Runway 2 is being renovated and parts are being used at the moment for aircraft parking and from time to time equipment associated with the airport redevelopment.
According to the airport authority all three runways will be equipped to handle takeoffs and landings, each one will be assigned to function as follows in order to optimise the efficiency of the 3RS: the northern runway will be used for landings, the central runway will be dedicated for takeoffs, and the southern runway will accommodate both landings and takeoffs. This is the most efficient mode of operation according to an independent consultancy study. In fact, the southern runway of the current two-runway system is also used mainly for takeoffs, while the northern runway is primarily for landings.
Some of the available information re date when all 3 runways will be in operation is contradictory but it seems 2nd quarter of 2024 is probably the date. David may more up to date info re this .

This will not conclude the total of the overall development project with a huge shipping and entertainment concourse being built part on the reclaimed land at the back of the new 3rd runway. With several non passenger related less urgent programs still in process it seems unlikely that the total of these on going and yet to commence development programs will be finished before 2028 at best
