For JFK the crew stay in a very central Manhattan location. For Newark they overlook a car-park and until you see the digs, it's hard to explain how grey the place is!

In terms of Lagos, I agree in terms of quality CIHY, but some crew I know love it.

You make a very good point though, which is that different staff like different places - fortunately swaps can occur and each to their own. To that extent there is a very well known crewmember who adores going to Nairobi, and is gutted the aircraft change means they can't fly it - meanwhile there are other crew who've never bid for it and have no interest in setting foot.
