Whilst I agree with you when it comes to connections onto Jetstar and Bangkok Airways and the likes, connections onto QF are anything but less premium than SIN. Tickets to Australia (sold by AF) are routinely double the price of SIN tickets despite the relatively marginal added distance.
That being said, theres an absolutely staggering amount of people connecting onwards to Phuket and Bali and the likes (visible from baggage tags when getting off Jetstar flights in these destinations).
