I haven't been for a few years now, but Hawaii is incredibly varied and each island has its own character. Being able to experience all of this within one holiday is truly amazing - I think it has 11 out of the worlds 13 climates. Having said that, we managed to escape without the kids for a short break last year and went to Barbados. From the UK for a beach holiday I'd return there in a heartbeat. I absolutely loved the vibe/culture of the island and it's so much easier to get to.

Or the 'Modern Family' hotel when we stayed in 2010. Needless to say it is about 5x the price these days (and that's for the room we booked, let alone one we were upgraded to) and I think it's safe to say that we won't be returning any time soon! I've heard that it's totally rammed now, too so hardly the tranquil oasis the price tag suggests.

When we were planning our honeymoon someone told me that so many never get out of Waikiki, in which case they may as well have booked a fortnight in Benidorm!

I would have thought your creativity could see beyond this. I can already here ORC, 300 miles rule etc as you've carefully calculated which flights would be most likely to be cancelled and which be full of AA elite upgrades, leaving the agent with little alternative to putting you on the direct flight whilst you rake in the original TPs.
