Stayed here for a staycation and liked it quite a lot. But also really helped that we weren't staying in one of the super tiny rooms. I'd booked a standard king on points and got upgraded as a Gloablist to King Bed City View Deluxe in a corner room. Check-in is on the 8th floor and they gave us a $30 F&B credit after mentioning it was special occasion for us when they asked why we were staying there that night. So enjoyed a good drink on the 8th floor rooftop bar which was really nice (though very pricey - $17 cocktails). They also brought up some sparking water, some small cookies, and a small package of Lammes Longhorn candy to our room so that was a really nice touch. The city view (facing South) from our room was pretty great, but if you have the choice do the capitol view (facing North). You can use the room key to get up to the 30th floor for a really fantastic view of the capitol though regardless of which room you book. Interestingly the 31st (top) floor view was had a frosted covering preventing you from seeing the view.
Room layout was good and everything being new was nice. Not a lot of closet space (the hangers literally rest against the side of the wall because there's not enough space) and there's no iron/ironing board, just a hand-held steamer. The most interesting feature of the room was the toilet window with a full floor-to-ceiling view of 8th street while you poop. Doesn't seem like anyone can see in during the day due to the glass treatment based on looking up at it outside. But at night it's a different story. There is a blind you can lower if you want.
Globalist breakfast is in the restaurant downstairs. Menu is Spanish influenced and breakfast was fantastic. Got 4pm checkout without any issue but they did forget to take valet off until went down to the front desk at checkout, but was promptly fixed. Staff was friendly, maybe they sent them through charisma training since the other person stayed there. Location is really great and perfect for a tourist. I found it amazing what they were able to do in such a small footprint of a former crappy parking lot I used to stand in line in before movies at the Paramount next door.
I definitely prefer this over the Thompson, mostly just because the vibe of the Thompson/Tommie just feels off to me and too sterile and cold. Not sure how staying in one of the really small 200 sq ft standard rooms here would feel though. I'd look forward staying here again but realistically this is probably a one time thing since I wouldn't normally splurge for the points because there's several other solid enough options for 5-8k cheaper and that I can use Cat 1-4 certs on.
