The YVR stopover was initially there because the a/c didn't have the range to fly HKG-JFK directly - and then it just stayed for many years. Was bookable with Avios and was a fantastic redemption.

Similarly, JFK-FRA-SIN is still there even though SQ now operates direct JFK-SIN and EWR-SIN flights.
