If you have already booked the ticket then it will say the Star Alliance tier you had when you booked it (e.g. Silver) regardless of your current tier and you will be denied entrance to lounges.

When checking in let them know you have recently upgraded to gold, so that they manually set the tier to Gold during checkin.
