Got a guest (on a domestic UA departure in Y) into ORD PL alongside my ANA F ticket. It took some time talking to the lounge dragon, who at first was adamant that there was no such thing as guests in Polaris Lounges. Eventually, the other agent leaned over and said to just try scanning the boarding passes, which worked fine and the system allowed it.
I mean in fairness both agents and you were partially mistaken. The first agent was wrong about no guests , however the second agent/you were incorrect since your guest wasn't on the same flight which has been required since May 2021 per *A lounge access policy.
