They're supposed to refare the ticket for what was actually flown (ie. if you were in a RT fare, they would need to find a fare that was valid for one way travel for the flight you took). I tried chatting with an online agent, who apologized but said there was no way to convert the unused ticket to an ETC. I don't have the patience (or time really) for a phone call (my MileagePlus Silver status doesn't give me a dedicated phone number), and I don't see why they would make an exception. I think I can find a reason to make the overseas trip again before the end of the year :-) Thanks for the assistance!
