I don’t own or lease a car. I have a non-owner liability policy that covers liability when I rent a car. If I rent a car for an extended period which I do are usually use my Premium Car Rental protection, and pay the 1595 per rental.
however, and looking over my platinum business card benefits, it looks like I have car rental protection that is secondary to any insurance I have and that doesn’t cost any extra. Since I don’t have any collision insurance does this coverage then become primary if I refuse the car rental agencies collision insurance? I would love to be able to save adoes this coverage than become primary if I refuse the car rental agencies collision insurance? I would love to be able to save a little bit of money on the shorter rentals. Thanks for any help
As long as you are certain that your non-owner policy does not include coverage for loss of, or damage to, cars you rent, then you should be fine. Here in New York, my non-owner policy automatically includes such coverage, paid out of the policy's property-damage coverage. That's apparently a requirement of NYS law.
Also, note the limits on rental periods covered by the card's free coverage. Most cards limit such coverage to a maximum rental of 15 or 30 days. I believe that the Amex Premium coverage is good for rentals of up to 42 days.
