I had a direct flight BWI-CVG-BNA circa 2010 (albeit not mainline). At CVG we actually changed planes to the next gate over (other days around then flightaware indicated that both legs were on the same plane).

But because it was a direct flight, when we boarded leg 2, those of us who were on leg 1 didn't have to scan boarding passes. The GA just checked our names off of a list.
