Good for overnight close to the airport
Introduction Since I had a late arriving flight and a rather early morning flight, I selected this property to stay close to the airport. Was glad to see an international chain hotel close to the airport especially in Romania. The hotel is rather new (< 2 years). Location Although the hotel provides no shuttle service, it is quite walkable. From the arrivals terminal, it is a much longer walk to the property, about 10-15 mins. The best would be to follow the walkway and than across the parking lot of the departure building (which is a separate building to arrivals). Do note that the sidewalks are not always well paved - it's mostly not well maintained, so pulling your luggage can be an issue if it's bulky/heavy. From the hotel back to the airport departure building, this is much closer and it's about a 5-10 mins walk depending on the amount and type of luggage you have. The other option is of course by taxi - which I believe they would charge quite expensive for the 5 mins max ride. There are not much around the property except all airport related operations offices and organizations. Check In This property does not seem to offer digital check-in. I arrived just after midnight to the property and was quickly helped by the front desk associate. As expected, it was very procedural with no small talk involve. I was away with my room key within 5 mins of arriving at the front desk and showing my ID. I was given a package cookie and informed about my benefits as an elite member. I was also pointed to the direction of the elevators and informed that I needed to use my keycard for access to my floor. The check-in area was actually still busy with guests around the bar/restaurant area. It did have quite a nice inviting feel to it and not your typical HGI type of decoration which is nice. Room The room was a different story to the open area of the hotel, it was the typical cookie cutter HGI room. It was slightly on the smaller side compared to other HGI rooms I've stayed in, but perfectly ok for a short stay - which is what I believe are mainly the hotel's clientale. The room was equipped with the usual amenities, a small sitting area and a working desk. Around the working desk - was the mini bar area - with the fridge below and kept empty. Coffee and tea making amenities was provided in addition to a bottle of complimentary water. Internet speed was ok. The TV channel selection was a mix of local and international options. Sleep quality was good - with limited external noise disturbance, but internal noise disturbance was slightly worst - as you could hear room doors being closed and when people walk outside along the hallway. Climate control was ok - as usual in lots of Eastern Europe, the room was initially too warm. The climate control seems to be possible to be turned down to only 19 deg and that was the lowest it went - which is what i kept it on. Fan speed sound was close to no audible. The bathroom size was actually ok - and I was surprised that the property had also the rather new fixed wall bottles of Zero toiletries (which I do find much better compared to the previous Crabtree & Evelyn range. The shower area was of a good size with good pressure and temperature control. However this is also the main complain of the property - not sure who came up with the design, but it was so bad because there bathroom floor was just perfectly flat, which means the water does not flow naturally towards the drain and without having any good borders, when you shower, water will start flowing towards the direction of the room even with the door closed. Luckily using the floor mat, this does stop the flow into the room itself. I believe this is the worst designed walk-in shower I've seen. A quick fix to this should be possible - which hopefully the management of the hotel will look into. Breakfast Breakfast at this property starts from 6am - which is good especially it is an airport property. The breakfast is served in the main restaurant of the property. The design of the restaurant was quite interesting and original in a sense. Breakfast spread was actually surprisingly good for a HGI property - I believe one of the better ones compare to others in Europe and for certain much higher quality to US properties. They had quite a few number of hot dishes and local dishes included. The quality of the items seems to be also good. Service level at the restaurant was ok - with plates being cleared on time. Overall All in all, a good stay and I will certainly return to this property if I need a place close to the airport. I also fully recommend this property for those looking for a place close to the airport. The check out staff the next morning did seem to be much more open compared to the night staff.
