I travel long haul twice a year starting and returning to from ABZ and connecting through LHR. A couple of years ago our luggage never made it to the return flight from LHR to ABZ. I subsequently received a telephone call at home from Customs at ABZ asking could I advise them the cost of a souvenir I had bought abroad. It only cost £10 but they clearly saw reason to open our luggage. Not sure how they managed to obtain my telephone number as there was nothing in the case to show this.
