Trip conclusion...

This trip yielded in total 38486 Aegean miles and gave us silver status with Star Alliance (since we flew twice with A3 at the beginning of December). If we manage to fly by the end of 2023 4 segments with A3, we will get Gold status with Star Alliance. Sounds easy enough, although our plans for 2023 regarding travelling are already busy !

Would I do this trip again for 1400 Euros round trip ? Certainly ! Are there better options for business class travel from Europe to Chile ? I believe so, but here the cheap price, the good mileage earnings, the convenience of not having to position to another airport far from home and the possibility to do some stop overs made this trip suitable for us. As I said before, the hard product on AC was solid, the soft product remains to be improved, and the customer service of AC needs certainly to be improved ! The few schedule changes we had were a bit annoying, and the fact this ticket was issued on Lufthansa stock by Expedia made contact with customer service very complicated as those 3 companies are not known for their customer service ! (I would eventually recommend Expedia Netherlands customers to select the Dutch speaking option when wanting to speak to an agent, as the English speaking option transfers you to a call center in India where the employees have no clue (or no empowerment) on how to do any ticket changes following a cancellation or reschedule. The Dutch-speaking agents most of the time speak very proper English and are more aware of the rules and regulations, at least in our experience with this trip. While I would gladly repeat this experience if the fare shows up again, I would book with a real brick and mortar travel agent this time as dealing with Expedia (or any other OTA) or the airline is just a mess nowadays. For the sake of comparison, I would try to book this time one long haul segment with United, just to compare the lounge experience and hard product (and also get one little Away amenity kit J)

This ends this trip report ! I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed sorting all the pictures taken during this trip as for once I actually managed to finish a trip report ! (And my next goal will be to finish my other trip report from my 6-month round the world trip in 2018-2019 !)

Since this trip was finished mid January, I went twice to Naples, Italy for work; twice to Lyon in France to visit our family and we also travelled for 10 days to South East Asia (Singapore, Langkawi and Bangkok) to benefit from a very good Amex offer with Air France in Business class and I am now writing those lines from the last leg of a BA tier point run I did this last week between Lisbon and Budapest… Via Helsinki, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco bay area, Los Angeles and NY again, then London and Helsinki J So this is a busy year for travel so far J
