If you can convince an SQ agent to ticket this, it would not be considered a stopover, just a booking of connecting flights. Just so happens that the you are connecting between two sectors with the same flight number. Minimum connection time at NRT for SQ-SQ flights is 45 mins so it is a legal connection and your luggage will be tagged through to LAX for you, as it would with any connecting flight, when checking in you will get two boarding passes (and perhaps even get two different seats).

I've sort of done something like this on SQ 1 from SFO to SIN, via HKG, although I had originally booked SFO-SIN-HKG on separate flights (HKG-SIN 1 hr later than the continuing flight), by the time of departure seats at freed up on SQ1 HKG-SIN and I was able to move, so I "connected" at HKG from SQ1 to SQ1.....
