I like to know because I like to be the first (or near first) off the plane. As you roll your eyes as I rush past you and you think to yourself, “what’s his hurry?,” know that the answer usually is “nothing, but let me go anyways; I promise not to inconvenience you.” That said, when I arrive at MSY, I can get through GE, into a taxi, and home in less than 30 minutes from when they open the door. (My record is 20 minutes on a 1:00am domestic arrival from when the aircraft door opened to when I stepped into my front door in Mid City, New Orleans.)
Although I've found that because of the placement of the GE machines at MSY there's frequently passengers who assume that they have to scan their passport in the shiny machine because everyone else is doing so as they walk past, leading to a long wait time as their non-"GE approved" passports cause errors and they simply cannot work out why they're being rejected.
