The AmSafe website says "CARES fits on virtually all Economy, Business, and First Class seats. The CARES red loop will extend to a circumference of up to 62 inches. If you will be flying on an airline with extra large seats or a sleeper seat, you may want to check with the airline to see if CARES will fit. CARES should not be used on a seat equipped with an airbag."
I also called and the rep told me it "should work" on lie flat business class seats. She didn't sound particularly authoritative, though...
Tried calling AA and the agent said I'd have to call back once I know my flight so they could confirm if I could use the harness or not. (This was before I narrowed down the flight options.)
This all seems a little wishy washy for something as important as child safety on flights...
Your issue here is that, even if it works on some (but not all) aircraft, equipment changes happen. I would not trust that the flight you book for the fall will be on the same aircraft that they are advertising today.
