I may have an interesting case as well. I booked a 254 and 224 ish hotel, then subsequently cancelled the hotel. Well, I was never charged the two amounts but got 200 credit even I already used this year. Now the problem is they charged 180, 190 ish on my account, the timing were similar to my original booking but the amount was different and Amex fhr never saw theses charges but they would not just return my money and asked me to dispute the charges. I’m waiting for the results but feel Amex had some terrible issue on hotel reservation.
When you click on "Show Additional Information" for these credits and charges for this transaction on the Amex website does it say "Amex Hotel Credit"? What does you benefit tracker list as your remaining hotel credit for the year? Did you cancel same day as you booked?
I called Amex back following my earlier post. They issued more of a courtesy credit for the excess amount of the clawback. It will be interesting to see if further corrections are made down the line and how things go when I try and use the credit later this year.
