Avis 2023 Service Levels
Is it just me, or has Avis gone downhill precipitously this year? My past 7-8 rentals have each been a disaster in terms of:
- Airport bus pickup - extremely long wait times and fully packed busses in poor condition - sometimes no bus shows up at all and I have to Uber to the Avis lot;
- Vehicle condition - some smelling of smoke, always lots of mileage, often unclean;
- Checkin - on two recent occasions no agent was present to check the vehicle in so just had to leave it there
I arrived at BUR late Friday night to find the Preferred board blacked out and a sign taped on the Preferred window to go to the main desk downstairs. There were two agents working and around 25-30 people in queue. I immediately went online and rented from Enterprise -- got a clean, new vehicle right away with no wait. Return to LAX was fast, and flawless with no waiting for the bus as a fleet of them were lined up. This is like an alternate universe between the two brands versus ~25 years ago. I've been loyal to Avis since I was 18 years old (and figured out a clever way to rent from them back then), but I think this latest experience was the last straw. Curious to know if I've just been unlucky or if others have encountered the same?
