Yeah, if you have the ability to get status (like the recent status match) and get the bags for free, or live without anything more than a "personal item," you can take advantage of Frontier's absurd business model. But this is not a sustainable model, and it's a shameful way of doing business. I would note that the European airlines who pioneered this model don't do business this way. Flying in Europe is annoying because the cheapest fares on almost all airlines no longer include a carry-on (so price shopping is cumbersome) but if you do need a bag, the price is somewhat rational. I think Ryanair just charged me something like 25 bucks for a bag AND a "priority" seat assignment. Frontier will need to tweak their business model and call off the baggage police, or they will have few repeat customers.
You assume they have a lot of frequent travelers. My guess is they don't and those who do know what's up. Those with status are few and far between on the flights i take.
