I'll add that I left my iPhone on my seat on a UA flight last week and didn't realize until I was at PHX baggage claim. UA radioed the gate and they found and held my phone, then gave me a gate pass to go retrieve it. I was obviously pretty pleased with UA's response. (Note also that gate passes don't come with pre-check, so I got to see how the other half travels. No thank you!!!)
I concur. I've forgotten lots of things on aircraft in my 4 MM+ flying history. Sometimes I got them back, but most of the time they were taken. The worst was my wallet because I had to cancel all of my CCs and get new ID. However, it was always 100% my fault for forgetting the item. You can blame the finder for being dishonest but not UA. This is the current reality in America-honor is in short supply here. Contrast that with Japan, where I always got lost items back. In fact, I once dropped an envelope with Yen 400,000- in it during a trade show. To my surprise, someone turned it in and I got it back in a few hours.
