I have to say, our experience with Premium Economy did not match our expectations at all. We flew from Phuket to Helsinki which took 13 hours overall - probably the longest flight I've ever been on.

We had selected seats in the back row so that there would not be anyone directly behind us. I feel this was a good decision and the seats themselves are quite alright. Not perfect by any means, but the new business class seat isn't either.

Where things fell apart was the service and especially food. The service felt very hurried - they brought towels immediately after take off and a few minutes after that peanuts and offered drinks. I felt this was too early for anything other than water so that's the only thing I requested. The bag of peanuts is tiny and takes only 1-2 minutes to enjoy and by that time they were already serving food. According to the schedule shown on the screen, this was happening one hour earlier than it should have. Not sure why.

They had beef risotto and fish (red snapper) as options. I went for beef, but was told that they have already ran out of it and I would have to be content with the fish. I rarely eat fish and as it was very bland, I really didn't enjoy it. I don't have a picture of the meal, sorry about that.

Had I known that they only have limited amount of each option and that people in the back row would be served last, I might have gone for other seats or tried to pre-order the food. When flying with Qatar, they email you around three times about making the pre-order for food - didn't come across with anything similar on this flight with Finnair.

With the food, we weren't offered any drinks. They just went past us before we noticed. I know drinks can be requested at any time with the flight attendant call button but it shouldn't be necessary to be used when served food.

Now, this was one hour into the flight. 12 hours and only one meal left. Somewhere around 5-6 hours after departure I realised that for a 13-hour flight they really are only going to serve you a snack (the peanuts), one proper meal and one light meal before arrival.

This simply is not enough food for a flight this long. I was very hungry at the time they started serving the light meal (10 hours into the flight now). To my surprise, this is what we were served:

I'd say there are around 20 these penne pastas and few zucchini pieces. That's all. It was supposed to be pasta with tomato sauce but there's barely any tomato in it. I can't imagine that meal costs even one euro to make.

Finnair advertises Premium Economy by stating it includes a "Quality dining experience". There was no quality in either of the meals we were served. Seeing that others have received half a sandwich, I'm not sure which one is worse, but that is not the thing Finnair should be leaving their customers to think about.

It seems that Finnair would rather keep the PE dining experience the same in all their flights than adjust it based on the flight duration (they promise two meals for all PE flights, no matter if they are six hours or 13 hours).

Do you think this is enough food for a flight this long?

In my opinion a Premium experience begins with not having to consider bringing your own food.
