Hyatt Regency Brisbane = Mediocre but Fine for the (Low) Price

Introduction We recently had an uninspiring stay at Hyatt Regency Brisbane which is a mediocre hotel in a number of ways. I don't think there is another Hyatt brand that this hotel would be a better fit with, but for illustration purposes on the Marriott side this would be a Four Points in my opinion. The hotel is a rebranding, open in February 2021 after renovations of what used to be an independent hotel. I guess it’s nice to have a Hyatt property to get night credits in Brisbane now, but other than that the hotel did not leave much of a favorable impression. Check In In the days leading to our stay, the rates kept dropping so I cancelled and rebooked many times, I am guessing they had low occupancy. I could see suites available all the way until the morning of arrival when they disappeared so they must have been given to someone else and since the hotel was most likely low occupancy, that also means probably not many suites to upgrade to in any circumstances. I originally attempted to check-in at 11:30am and was denied. If I have a suite upgrade I don't mind waiting, but for a non-suite in a hotel which is low occupancy I told them it did not make a lot of sense. They told me check-in time is 3pm and when pressing the issue I found out that housekeeping had not even started cleaning my room so I was not going to get my room imminently. I told them I was not impressed because they must have had lots of rooms unoccupied from the night before and in the end finally they gave me a room which was ready - magic. Room The room was fine but nothing special, at least there was a large shower (no tub) but it was not rain shower though, so I cannot say that the renovations were overly thorough. The bed was two twins joined together and pretending to be a king bed which is a negative in my opinion. Dining There is no lounge at this hotel, and contrary to previous reports, there was no Globalist happy hour of any sort offered. I asked if the drinks vouchers had been eliminated and they told me they now give large bottles of water in the room to make up for it! In the end they gave me drink vouchers nonetheless but I don’t think we can count on that in the future.Breakfast was ok but nothing that stood out either positively or negatively; I would call it average like most of the rest of the hotel. Wifi One strong point was wifi which was very fast with speeds of 250-300 Mbps. Overall Overall this is a subpar HR for sure and my review might sound overly negative, but in fairness the price at HR was lower than any other full service hotel I checked for my dates. HR was almost as cheap as Ibis Styles nearby so in the end, the price was not bad for what we had so my criticism needs to be taken in that context. The main problem is simply that it should possibly not be branded as HR.
