The only time I remember a hotel noting it was my birthday by looking at my passport was at the Colombo Hilton (Sri Lanka). They sent a cake to the room and greeted me in the lounge. I send a note ahead if it is my husband's birthday. The hotel might or might not do something festive. Again, a Hilton story. We were at a Hilton south of Tokyo (blanking on name, but it was known for its water treatments). A team of four came to the room, one with a pitch pipe, and sang happy birthday to him. They also rolled in a small cake.
