Yes, and not only more restrictive policies, but you'll still have to deal with Expedia to make any changes. That is a huge negative. I really can't emphasize enough how much of an advantage it is to have booked direct through UA if you need to make changes. In most cases, with UA you can do it hassle-free via the app or website. That is simply not going to be true with most OTAs, nor many other major carriers (AA I'm calling you out specifically on this one). Expedia is particularly incompetent, and you'll invariably be forced to deal with untrained overseas call center agents who are working off a script.
This, despite the fact that among OTAs, they have a better than average website. I never book any travel or lodging reservations through an OTA.
Every time I see someone win a trip on a game show, it invariably involves travel furnished by an OTA, and I feel bad for the people who are being duped.
