Ah the DC-10. First flight was as a kid in 1978 from ORD --> LAX. It was the biggest plane I had ever seen, let alone flown on. The seats were huge and our flight wasn't full. So my sister and I were able to lay out and sleep for part of it. Got a pair of United wings and a tour of the cockpit by the co-pilot since he was a Navy pilot in Vietnam and my Dad was an instructor at the Naval Academy. Weird things you remember.

Fast forward to 1993 when we were flying MCO-->IAH-->DEN (Back when it was at Stapleton). We were in a MD-80 flying from Orlando and encountered a Microburst/Windsheer that dropped our plane about a 1,000 feet in 3 seconds. Sent the drink cart in the air and crashed down...they had just finished beverage service and all those bloody marys were all over everyone. My wife had just gotten up to use the bathroom when someone had opened up the door. The guy flew through the air and broke his collar bone on the overhead bin. My wife went straight up and hit the cabin roof with her head and landed on the seat arm. Needless to say when we arrived in Houston we missed our connecting flight. They put us in First class on the DC-10 for the flight to Denver. I wish it was for different circumstances, but that was the first time I'd ever flown outside of the main cabin. Amazing! Only wish it was one of the old "Pub" configurations.
