AS has (or had) two types of claim checks - one color was for gate check - returned at the jetway, and the other, to baggage claim. Don't know the current state of affairs over there, but if it doesn't have the same type of ticket as a stroller, etc., and the agent says it will be at the jetway, inquire again.
