That is what the agent said almost word for word here at YYZ (I am currently waiting for YYZ-VIE). She did tell me I am lucky to have gotten an exit row seat with extra leg room. Row 31 again! I did show my business class boarding pass. But basically told as mentioned above eupgrade are not guarantied even if confirmed.
The unfortunate thing is at this moment in time, I need them much more than they need me. I was also reminded of this here in YYZ
