I think it is complete crap that you can be bumped down from a eupped seat for AC's lack of planning/greed. I understand that is a possibility but this should be well compensated which it is not. If eup-ing from Lat and there is space available this is on AC to not oversell the J cabin or to restrict the number of R seats available. If it is not an option then it should not have been one in the first place. I would argue this is akin to being bumped off the flight and be subject to ++compensation but obviously that doesn't happen. I know I would be really angry if I paid a latitude fare and eupped only to get bumped back to Y for thousand of dollars (which sometimes are even more than J).
They don't intentionally overbook J. There's no greed here.
This only happens for basically three reasons:
1. Last-minute deadheading pilot, contractually guaranteed J
2. Inoperable seat
3. Downgauge
