Trying to understand how much of a difference in LPs it is if I purchased on AA or BA website.
Both A and J fares credit the same way. You just go by the BA table at aa.com, flight distance + cabin bonus + EXP bonus.

JFK-LHR-IST, 5001 flight miles:
5,001 Base Miles
7,502 Cabin Bonus (150%)
6,001 EXP Bonus (120%)
18,504 Total Miles/LP's

Assuming the fare is more than about $1600 then you would earn more booking the AA flight numbers.
