if I can do SDC (restricted to 24 hours)an 8:40 am would be more palatable.
M only question remaining is whether I can sdc the SFO-Lax leg (if I get one on the award) to one that’s over 24 hours from my arrival (I wouldn’t be able to on AA).

To be fair, how is one to interpret your question? Do don't clarify that the AS segment is the next day after an overnight layover. That changes the dynamic considerably.

You asked if a SDC can be more than 24 hours. No, it can't! But that doesn't apply to you in your scenario.

The onward AS flight the following day stands on it's own. You can do a SDC on that flight to any earlier or later flight that day as long as you maintain the same origin, destination & routing. SDC only requires that you have a reservation on that flight; whether you are on a layover or stopover or on a revenue or award ticket doesn't matter.

If you are in F, you may have to accept a downgrade to Main on a SDC. If you SDC to a later flight, you will have to wait until 24 hours before the new flight to check-in.
