This is good advice. I think I still would have been worried they’d cancel it. And even if I had recourse I still would be dealing with a major disruption. But I’ve learned a lesson not to count on these rez. Will prepay next time.
Thought I’d also update on what happened. When my rez was canceled, I made two backup rez: one from airport in spouse’s name at double the cost and one from another city location in my name for the original cost. I got a call from this other city location saying they didn’t have a car about three days before the trip. But the agent did, in fact, transfer the rez to the airport and was able to keep the cost at the lower amount. Four other agents told me that couldn’t be done. It can be done. The rez number stayed the same. We got to the airport and once I knew I had my car, I canceled the double cost rez in spouse’s name and all was well. However, there were THREE other people in line who had had the same issue. In one case, they were able to get the original cost but only after major escalation with Avis. In the other two cases, folks just gave up and paid the higher cost.
