So yes as I see it, you can walk freely between these areas without any re-check.

I think CPH having a separate E passport control is meant to make things better for US arrival and departing passengers, but I have some ideas about that not always being the case.
There is also the escalator option, beside the stairs, right beyond the C/D passport control checkpoint shown in your photo.
Some of the Danish passport control dudes were the ones who told me how to avoid the Danish passport control gals who either keep wondering why I do what I do or just want to interact with me more than is required.
There are no lounges in the E section, and so I go via the C/D section when wanting to drop into the Aventyr lounge (non-Schengen) at CPH before my E flights.
