Ok so long story short, the site of the GHT was supposedly a prison where executions took place during the japanese occupation and/or early KMT rule, hence the source of haunting stories. Other sources state it was only a munitions storage area. Either way, locals are pretty aware of these rumors.

There are in fact a lot of items/symbols placed around the hotel to ward off "Evil humors" although over the years they seem to have removed some of them. I asked my mother once if these two tapestries they had at the entrance were in fact for that purpose and she got quite upset and shushed me (I believe they're gone now).

On a personal level, I am not a believer in the supernatural, but during one of my stays, in the middle of the night, one of the lamps in our room started flickering like a strobelight. I told my girlfriend to knock it of but she was dead asleep, I got up and walked around and fumbled with the plug for the lamp, but it wasn't plugged in! I put the plug far away from the bed, and went back to sleep and it stopped. I was told later by someone the higher floor suites are more haunted, and indeed we were on the 2nd or 3rd highest floor in the base suite. Bad wiring? Bad spirits? I don't know, but the next time I stayed there the ghosts left me alone as did they the previous 4-5.
