Frontier's business model is to significantly under price airfare and overprice "extras" such as bags, both checked and bin. The pricing model won't work if a significant number of pax only pay the basic fare. Fares from NY to Florida are frequently under $50. A checked bag is $55 and a bin bag is $60. The additional cost for a bag weighing 41-50 lbs is $50. 40 pound isn't enough for me to share a bag, 50 lbs probably is. Another example of price "gouging" Obviously Frontier won't be in business if too many passengers are able to avoid paying $$$ extra. Frontier's side, passengers who are able to "cheat" the system affect the viability of the pricing model. We can make a case for charging more for airfare and not gouging. I was a preboard. My information isn't complete. A different airport experience on the outgoing vs return flight. I don't know if the difference is with the airport, the employees on shift or who employs the agents.
Going. Constant announcements. You're only allowed one personal item. Combine. Come up and check. It's cheaper to pay on the app now rather then wait for boarding. We're not going to stop boarding to give you time to combine items or try to make it fit. People were doing what was suggested. Bags marketed for under seat use, with wheels and handles, were too big. A number of passengers had their credit cards out and were on their phones.People who bought bags on Amazon could pack a lot. Those bags easily fit, as long as you didn't go crazy over stuffing it. I bought a bag from Narwey on Amazon. Plenty of vendors selling a similar item. Search for Frontier personal bag.
Return flight. No warnings. Almost no passengers were checking i. Many passengers had bags which were clearly oversized. Many passengers were holding both a personal bag and a second small bag. It didn't look like some of the personal items would even fit the bin bag sizer. Some could have been combined, some not.One passenger had an oversized hard bag. He was attempting to smash the bag so it would fit. I understand that was not an allowed option.
Some of the passengers posting videos forget to mention that although bag fits, it won't fit if they add their pocket book to their personal item before sizing it.
Some passengers under packed a bag which was about 10 inches to big. Trying to fold the bag down so it would fit. Good chance the bag won't pass on the return, even if the agent let it slide outgoing.
