I checked receipts for my flights on delta.com and it shows RG on outbound (which was my original award booking class) and OK on return (which is an upgrade class). So it does seem possible to preserve original booking class for flight credit somehow when processing these.
Correct, purchased G and A fares outright, not a online seat upgrade. My original ticket also shows G and A, with OK for both flights on the reissued ticket. Very odd that they're telling me it's X fare. I did use a combination of ecredits + credit card to pay for this booking but I can't see how that would be a factor.
