Just sharing my experience - perhaps venting?

I have a combination of cruise & internal flights in French Polynesia. The cruise departs/returns to PPT, after which I have a shared catamaran charter from Rangiroa. It turns out that when I booked the cruise the last stop was Rangiroa, so I was going to get off there and just fly back to PPT when it was time to go home - so I bought a one way ticket on Air Tahiti through Chase. Silly me!! The cruise changed itinerary and now their Rangiroa stop is at the BEGINNING of the cruise, not the end, so I needed to change to a round trip fare, which is about $70 less expensive than two one-ways.

Call 1 - explained everything, asked about cancellation, modification, rebooking options and whether agent could help me. After 30+ minutes on the phone and multiple holds, agent said "office open 8-5 weekdays " (this was 10 am on a weekday) and I should call back when their office is open. What??? OK< perhaps Tahiti time. Agent didn't even know what time zone. No info about fees, etc. Suggested I contact airline directly.

email to airline - they told me I had to work through travel agent (no surprise)

Call 2 - 9 pm EDT (3 pm Tahiti time). 15 minutes (including initial wait for agent hold) with agent 1, who said he'd look up restrictions. He found nothing, transferred me to international dept. More hold time. Agent 2 didn't even understand my problem. I had explained Chase's website wasn't even displaying my flight info and said there was a schedule change (there wasn't); however that wasn't my issue. First agent thought I meant schedule change, then agent thought I already had a booking for the outbound I need instead of my actual booking. We got through that. Agent said she'd look up fees. I told her "good luck, two other agents couldn't find it". OK, put on hold while she contacts airline. 10-15 mins later "they're closed, only open xxx-xxx Pacific time". Then she started to tell me something about calling again - sounded like she'd follow up next day - and call went dead. WHAT!??? I wait for a callback, which came 10 mins later - dead air, no agent. I tried to call into the number that called me, got main number for Chase Travel. Meanwhile clock is ticking on flight availability and I'm already holding a non-refundable hotel reservation, this is a small local airline and I was concerned they'd sell out. No way I was going to start again from the beginning, I've already wasted too much time --

so -decided to bite the bullet and pay the $70 extra for a second one way ticket. Tried to book through Chase travel, which showed availability on the two daily flights (2 seats left on each). Went to book one - got the message "flight no longer available". OK, went to book the second - "flight no longer available". Searched the itinerary again - both flights showed up!!!! Tried again, same problem.

Totally gave up, and booked my ticket on the airline site. Gave up the extra points but I'd had it with Chase Travel!!!!

Very very disappointing experience. I know, in the end I got done what I needed to, but at added cost and in spite of Chase Travel, not because of them. Lesson learned.
