I would advise not leaving the airport and going to the beach. By the time you left the airport, got to the beach, and got settled, you would have maybe an hour and a half before you had to come back.
Also, this is LA: the new Seattle. It's always rainy here and the beach isn't so great in the rain. Go to the lounge.
