For your future reference, had you met the MCT, though, and had you booked award CX and revenue AA flights in the same PNR (very difficult but technically possible), the "oneworld Reaccommodations – Separate Tickets" section of
https://saleslink.stage.aa.com/en-US...ty_(IROPS).pdf would apply. You will likely not get your bag at LAX though, as CX will still send the bag to AA for AA to put it on the next flight (or whichever flight you will take).
All arriving Intl pax must clear immigration, pick up bags, clear customs and then drop bags off for onward connections (if tagged) or recheck with onward flight operating airline. All the onward domestic passengers will need to clear TSA security before heading to their departure gate.
