It seems that anyone who "knows" anyone in Qantas past and present seem to be able to get these fares.
A friend of mine just got an ID90 in J. She is the daughter in law of an ex-Qantas staff member.
I think ID90/75 are fine for Y BUT since QF seem to be so tight on awards for J and F, you would think that they would not allow ID90/75 in J and F. Also since I cant standby for Z class if I have a RTW award Z ticket but with only U confirmed, why should an ID90 be able to stand by for F and not me, since they are suppose to be rated lower in the pecking order?
They are still not THAT cheap. ID90 and ID75 fares are off the most expensive full fare .... so from AUS - LON would be about $800 in J. Sounds cheap to us, but I think you'll find the majority of tickets are sold in Y. The advantage for QF staff though is that they are upgraded at the gate if there is space ...
All travel industry staff can get at least ID75 on all scheduled airlines. A good friend of mine is a first officer on QF, and I've travelled extensively with him. He simply walks up to the ticket desk of every airline that goes where he wants to go on the date, shows his pilot's licence and QF id, and they sell him an ID75. He can of course book ahead, but why bother having your travel plans fixed ?? He only ever flies in Y except when on QF ...
