Welcome to FT! I got my gold exactly the same way I'd say it actually feels extra nice doing it with leisure travel only, I'm doing so on my way to platsku now.
I've had no issues using my voucher & points on SIN, from PE to J. One lesson I've learned is to give CS a ring even if you get denied at T37, I've managed to get myself waitlisted again and upgraded a few times now. It's stupid policywise, but hey, if it works it's better to exploit it.
