Before the current widebodies had the "Polaris seats", I don't remember people were confuses about they types of business class seats they are getting on widebodies versus the single aisle planes. There was never a question (or confusion) about flying PMCO BusinessFirst or PMUA IPTF vs Domestic FIrst/Businss (and acess to lounges when sitting in BusinessFirst/IPTF installed planes).
I don’t think that the problem is related to the name, or calling things “Polaris seats.” I think the difference is that UA never had a massive marketing campaign around United Global First, and while there were a couple of Global First lounges, they weren’t something that most travelers really knew about if they weren’t actually flying GF routes. Polaris simply has much better mindshare, and I think it’s in large part due to the Polaris lounge.
