Historically CX has always been pretty good about releasing more award space as the flight gets closer (within 1-2 weeks).

However as 2023 has progressed CX's award space patterns haven't matched what we've seen in the past. CX's schedule is still a fraction of what it was pre-covid, HKG has only recently reopened, the limited flights they are operating are chock full, etc., so all bets are off. There's not much you can do other than keep checking every day up until the flight, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

And yes, barring some kind of flight delay or other irrops, your chances of getting a check-in agent at HKG to just switch you to the nonstop are basically zero.
