Holiday Inn Express Düsseldorf Airport (DUS)
Holiday Inn Express Düsseldorf Airport (DUS)
What is your Priority Club status?
Diamond
Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Undecided.
Needed a hotel as I had a business trip with an early departure and late arrival. Therefore I decided to book this hotel, which is closer to the airport and was not as expensive as hotels downtown.
The hotel is new and only opened recently in February. It is locaed in an area, which was developed a couple of years agon. There are a couple of office buildings and opposite is a Novotel and ibis Hotels. There is not much to do and see around the hotel. A bus stop is a couple of metres aways and the train station Düsseldorf Airport is a ten minutes walk away. From there you can also take the Skytrain to the main terminal. The hotels does not offer a shuttle but can arrange for a taxi (around 15 EUR one way).
There Lobby is medium sized with a couple of armchairs, lounge chairs and tables. The bar is to the left with additional seating and connects to the restaurant. Unlike other HIX, this hotel serves small snacks (Pizza, Pasta). There is also a fridge with beverages and pretzel like snacks. I found this area not as nice as the Lobby at other HIX as the lights are rather cold LED lights.
Check-In was quick with two agents on duty. He was following protocol and thanked me for being a Diamond Member. No information about location of room. Information about breakfast times were given and in general he was friendly and helpful. I took the beverage and a voucher was written. Asked about folio and specific address and at check out everything was prepared and correct. Quite often I had to give this information again. In so far, check-out was very quick.
I was assigned a room on the sixth floor. It was not as far away from the elevator as I would have preferred, but there was not noise. The floors (and the building itself) are shaped like a C. Windows could be opened, but you hear the noise from the street and the people smoking at the entrance. There is no noise from planes. Soundproof is good. You need to keycard to access the floors.
Service at the bar in the evening was friendly.
Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked Standard Room and received the same room as there is only this room type
How are the rooms?
My room was located on the sixth floor. Despite close to the elevator, it was quiet. Nevertheless my preference of a room away from the elevator was ignored. Windows could be opened. The usually small movable desk did its job for a a couple of e-mails on my laptop. In general I dislike them for real and longer work (like writing meeting minutes or preparing a presentation). USB plugs (A and C) were wall mounted and also located at the small bedside tables. In general, you know what to expect as this hotel was using the new type room of a HIX. There were however some differences.
Water pressure of the shower was weak. There was no glass door and also not curtain, which means water was dripping on the floor. Stronger water pressure would have menat that this would be kind of flooding the bathroom floor. Nevertheless, it was very weak, A heated mirror was also available. Shower gel and shampoo (Dove) were placed on the rack in the shower and next to the sink.
Towels were provided in large and medium, but not in small size and only for one person - sure this is okay.
Black out curtains. The air condition / heating unit does its job, but I found the bathroom a bit cold.
A kettle was available as well and selection of tea bags and coffee was limited to one regular coffee, one decaf- coffee and one tea bag. There was much to my surprise no in-room safe. Most newer HIX have them I found it a bit surprising as this one had none.
Breakfast starts as 06:00 on weekday. There is also a small breakfast with croissant, muffins, yoghurt and coffee, tea and water at 04:00 which was nice. On my second and last day, breakfast was not ready at 06:00, so I could not comment. But it seems, that they only offer pancakes but not scrambled eggs.
Paid 98 full flexible, advanced purchase would have been 89 EUR. In comparison, the HIX Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof would have been around 127 EUR.
How is the exec. lounge?
N/A
What was good and what was bad?
Good
New hotel
USB ports and sockets
Windows could be opened
Staff is friendly and attentive
Small Breakfast at 04:00 am
Large parking garage connected to hotel (for a fee)
Neutral
Connection to public transport is average, bus stop served by SB 51 towards airport and Theodor-House-Brücke where you could connect to trade fair and city centre is close, airport station is 10 minutes aways no real desk
No safe in room
Lobby somehow a bit cold
Bad
Water pressure
No door (or at least curtain) at shower
No airport shuttle
Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
98 EUR for a fully flexible booking was okay compared to the rates at other hotels. With small luggage you could walk to bus stop and even train station; do not recommend this with larger luggage of in bad weather.
Would not return if the hotels in downtown are not much expensive. You do not need much more time from the HIX Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof or the HIX Düsseldorf North to the airport by public transportation.
