Managed to get A332/333 on a few of the CMB-CGK and CGK-CMB sectors
Well done, FWIW of our 4 sectors just flown, when booked, one was an A333, three A332. These were chopped and changed such that at the beginning of the trip, all were A332. Then for the last sector CGK-CMB, on the day, there was an expertflyer notification of a change from A332 to A333....good news....except a 2h30m delay not so good news when the connection at CMB is 1h25m to the CMB-AUH. In the end they held the CMB-AUH for us (and 38pax in Y) but some other connections weren't held. Luckily we hadn't booked the 0210 DXB-LHR home as we would have missed it. We night stopped in the Premier Inn AUH for a few hours and flew DXB-LHR the next morning.
My comments on the thread tips below.
TIPS
1. The footrest on the Neo is pretty useless. It's not deep enough to hold both feet, and too high for anyone over 5ft! <also applies to the newer A320ceos>
3. Despite the 2300 departure time from AUH, meals are provided - and thus the lights come on. There's no blindfold in the UL miniature amenity kit, so bring your own. <no amenity kits handed out but eyeshades offered on 1 of 8 sectors and toothbrush, mouthwash in the toilets (diligently cleaned v regularly, impressive!)>
5. Despite the IFE and power boxes, there is a huge amount of legroom (even for me at 6ft). <No IFE, chargers, wifi on A320ceos which predominate on AUH-CMB. Around a third of the short haul fleet is parked up out of service>
6. Upon arrival into CGK, try and grab a golf-buggy to Passport Control. It is free, and tipping is hugely frowned upon (there's a sign) - it's much quicker than walking. <no buggys in sight on our two arrivals at CGK>
7. Dependent on your passport
, you may have to fill in an Immigration form. UL do not stock them onboard. <Paper forms no more....Visa required now (500,000IDR = £28ish), we did e-VOA online first trip and manual VOA second; e-VOA you can pay by c/card in advance, VOA there's desk to sell these but cash only, change in Rupiyah if offer $/£. You end up at same desks signed e-VOA/Visa on Arrival so e-VOA may save 2 mins at VOA desk but wiped out if get in the wrong queue for immigration. Be wary of the top hit websites offering e-VOA, the official govt one is e-VOA official site
8. Once through to the baggage hall, grab a Customs form, UL wont provide this on the plane, but you'll need it to exit into the main arrivals area. <Paper forms are no more....can either do in advance online or scan a QR code as walking towards immigration.....possible to to fill in form while walking....either way you get a QR code that's scanned at customs. Again, be wary of websites if you want to do in advance, the one you need is Customs declaration and you can only fill it in within 2 days of arrival>
9. If using Grab Taxi (around 60% cheaper than the official airport taxis), head to the right once through into the main Arrivals area. It will lead into the car park, where you will meet your driver. <this has changed, both Grab and hotel bus pickups now at the very far end of the terminal near multi storey car park and T3 domestic arrivals, 10 mins walk, turn left out of terminal exit on arrival>
10. UL use Check-In Desks C5-C9 - between entrances 2 and 3. There is Security upon entry, but only for your baggage. <if early, paper BPs work at CGK but you won't get a lounge pass; but they'll print a paper BP at the gate.....at AUH paper BPs absolutely not allowed and policed. Mobile BPs - like a BA pass - that existed before are no more>
B2B at AUH is still really easy in theory as old terminal 1 still in use, we didn't try this so can't confirm they'd print a paper BP at the gate. Serendib lounge at CMB - and Al Dhabi lounge at AUH and also CGK lounge - ask for lounge invitation which only comes with paper BPs/check in desk. Note that AUH's midfield terminal, which seems to have been dormant for years, is currently scheduled to open in Dec-2023, at which point B2B will become more tricky. At no stage was credit card proof required by UL, only surprise was being asked for C-19 proof of vaccination at CMB gate on one occasion, most people weren't prepared for this.
I'll write up a proper trip report with photos and menus in due course.
No TPs/Avios have posted yet; despite the low tech aircraft, all the UL cabin staff and everyone else in Asia/Middle East were lovely. Just makes the variable service on BA and the arrival at Heathrow experience seem so poor by comparison.
